Skylark Spirits’ massive, nationwide Rhum Damoiseau education tour concluded this week with a stop in London, and RumFest, which means it’s now time to open the Rhum Damoiseau National Arrange Competition for entries.

This comp is all about exploring flavour and reducing waste. The Rhum Damoiseau Arrange liquids get their unique flavour by macerating their rums with freshly picked fruit which is placed inside the bottles at the distillery.  The National Arrange competition challenges you to create a serve which uses the fruit from the bottle as an integral part of the drink. How you do this is entirely open to interpretation  – for example, you could candy or cook it to create a garnish, or use it to create a syrup or shrub. As long as your imagination and flavour-matching skills find a creative way to integrate the fruit into the drink, you are good to go.

The Rhum Damoiseau National Arrange Competition has suitably epic prizes up for grabs for its eventual champions. The first place bartender will win a trip to Guadeloupe, and let’s be honest, this is once-in-a-lifetime, because when else are you going to visit Guadeloupe! Second place wins a trip to Paris, with a bar takeover at Dirty Dicks, and third place will take home a care package of Rhum – including some fine and rare bottlings and unreleased products.

The competition itself has three phases – first you submit your drink by registering it on the Skylark Spirits website. There will then follow an in-bar qualification period during which your entry cocktail is available on your bar’s menu. Then, regional heats will take place, followed by a National Final in January next year.

Rhum Damoiseau National Arrange Competition Rules

Your entry must:

  • use 30ml of any Arranges Rhum (can use multiple flavours)
  • reuse the fruit in any arrange bottles in the serve (Fruit from the bottle can be added to if neccessary)
  • have a maximum of 8 ingredients, excluding garnish
  • be available to purchase at your bar between 01.11 & 30.11 to enter
  • shared on socials at least once with #damocomp2023
