Rhum Damoiseau Announce National Masterclass Tour and Cocktail Competition

Masterclass sessions will take place between October 1st-12th in 10 cities throughout the UK

Skylark Spirits have announced a huge education masterclass tour for Rhum Damoiseau, which will visit ten cities around the UK over the first two weeks of October.

The masterclass sessions will provide bartenders with an opportunity to learn about and taste a range of Damoiseau liquids, enjoyable and worthwhile in its own right, as well as giving attendees great foundation knowledge to create an entry for the coming Rhum Damoiseau cocktail competition – more on this later.

For the uninitiated, the former Bellevue distillery is located on Grande-Terre, one of twelve islands that form the archipelago Guadeloupe, in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, and has been producing sugar cane rums since the Damoiseau family purchased it in 1942.

The distillery produces agricole rums made with locally-grown sugar cane, and in the case of the arrangés or macerated liquids, with fresh fruit grown in Guadeloupe.

The arrangés start life as hand picked fruits brought to the distillery, where they are hand cut and then hand bottled by the team there. After 45 days of infusion, they are finished with sugar cane syrup produced from the locally grown cane.

Masterclass details

The masterclass sessions will begin with a welcome cocktail, and then Damoiseau brand ambassador Damien Defoe and James Cooper will present a bartender-focused agricole and arrangés masterclass, examining in particular these liquids:

  • Damoiseau Arrangé Pineapple & Vanilla
  • Damoiseau Arrangé Coconut & Vanilla
  • Damoiseau Arrangé Guava & Vanilla
  • Damoiseau 40 Blanc
  • Damoiseau Millesieme 2009

Bartenders will learn about the creation of arrangés, the history and heritage of sugar cane juice and distilled rhums, and the story of the Damoiseau family distillery.

Skylark Spirits’ James Cooper will then take over and talk bartenders through the National Arrange Cocktail Competition, how to enter it, and of course, the competition’s epic prize.
