The 2015 outing of the fantastic Gin Mare Mediterranean Inspirations Competition is open for entries.
Over the last few years BarLifeUK have looked forward to the launch of the Gin Mare Mediterranean Inspirations competition for several reasons.
Firstly it means summer is on the way. It may not feel like it now but by the time the heats get under way the sun will be out, Stuart Ekins from CASK will be burning his bonce and this biting cold will be a thing of distant memories.
Secondly it means we get to try some fantastic drinks from around the UK. Over the years the competition has produced some of our favourite comp cocktails, the level of ingenuity and balance of unusual flavours is always fascinating.
Thirdly it means we’re going to Ibiza. Several days on this beautiful island with a great bunch of people having an absolute ball. The best bit is this year you could be there with us (just to clarify, us being there is not one of the highlights).
The competition has evolved a little for 2015 but the essence is still the same – use Gin Mare to make two delicious cocktails and get yourself on a plane to Ibiza.
This year the competition will be (as always) open to all bartenders from around the country. You will be asked to create three cocktails, a twist on the classic Red Snapper, an original drink inspired by the Mediterranean and your twist on the gin and tonic. Apart from using a minimum of 30ml of Gin Mare in the cocktails, and 50ml in the gin and tonic, there are no restrictions as far as number of ingredients or homemade ones. Get as creative as you want or of course keep it nice and simple.
All of that is similar to previous years, however the structure of the heats is where the comp has a new twist. This time all of the heats will be in London over a three day period with the final taking place on day four. There will also be a host of events taking place in the evenings but more on those in the coming weeks.
If you are from outside of London Gin Mare’s UK agency CASK Liquid Marketing will be bringing you down to London for the day to compete at the competitions home this year, the Hoxton Hotel in Shoreditch.
The winner of the final will be heading to Ibiza to compete against the winners from various other countries to become the Global Gin Mare Mediterranean Inspirations Champion 2015 and win plenty of cash. Despite some exceptionally talented bartenders (and Ali Reynolds) representing the UK in the Global Final, it is a title we have never taken out, this year it is time for that to change.
