Brentingby is a new London Dry-style gin, made in a small hamlet near Melton Mowbray. The chap behind the brand, Bruce Midgely, designed and assembled the distillery’s custom, 10 plate copper column still and named it ‘Ayanda’, which means ‘augment’ or ‘proliferation’ in the isiZula language. Bruce hails from South Africa, you see…
Described by its creator as ‘a juniper dominant gin, which is equally at home in a G&T as it is in a cocktail, and featuring botanicals inspired by the great British countryside surrounding the distillery’, Brentingby contains 8 botanicals:
Juniper
Coriander
Angelica
Liquorice
Birch
Hibiscus
Orange peel
Whole pink grapefruit
While the distillery’s first release stays true to the traditional London Dry style, Midgely plans to further experiment with botanicals found in the English countryside that surrounds Melton Mowbray, with rosehip and elderflower possibly in the frame. Something tailored to make a Red Snapper accompaniment for Melton Mowbray pork pies must surely be on the innovation list too?
Seeing as Bruce Midgely learned his craft under Tom Nichol of Tanqueray renown, we would expect anything that comes out of the Brentingy distillery to taste pretty good. What’s more, Bruce has kindly set aside two bottles of the London Dry for BarLifeUK readers. To enter the draw, simply fill out the form below.
