Wales To Go Into ‘Circuit Breaker’ Lockdown From Friday

The latest area to announce new restrictions is Wales.

We’ve been hearing rumours over the last few days of hospitality venues in Wales being warned to prepare for a new lockdown and this afternoon that was confirmed.

Firstly, it is important to note that this isn’t a two week lockdown. That is what the welsh leaders are calling it and this is what the headlines will say but this is blatantly not true. Why? Because it starts at 6pm on Friday 23rd and ends on Monday 9th November so covers 3 weekends. Sounds like a small point, but that makes a massive difference to the losses that hospitality venues will suffer during the lockdown.

This lockdown means:

  • Everyone will be told to stay at home
  • Hospitality will be forced to close
  • Non-essential shops will be forced to close
  • Primary schools will re-open after the half term break (so not a lockdown then really is it?)
  • Only years 7 and 8 to return to secondary schools after half term
  • Gatherings indoors and outdoors with people not in a single household will be banned

No details on support for businesses forced to shut or people working in them yet.

So in short, it isn’t a lockdown that isn’t lasting for two weeks, but it is officially a 2 week lockdown.

Good luck to all our hospitality friends in Wales.
