This year Ian Burrell launched The Rum University Experience, it was such a success it is back in September 2014.
The University is a 4 day intensive rum course held on the Andalusian coastline in Spain close to Europe’s last remaining distillery, Ron Montero. Over the course of the 4 days the attendees will theoretical and practical knowledge through a series of workshops, seminars and excursions.
The impressive list of speakers that will be spreading their knowledge and skills like a rum fuelled educational eagle include Tiki Authority Jeff ‘Beachbum’ Berry, cocktail historians Anistasia Miller and Jared Brown, Master Distiller Richard Seale, food scientist Bernard Lahousse, International Rum Ambassador David Cordoba, NLP Master Practitioner Don Smith and of course Ian Burrell himself.
As well as the speaker’s insights, the attendees will also get to visit the Ron Montero Distillery for some more hands on education on the production and distilling of rum. There will also be trips to local sugar cane fields and a Pre-Industrial Sugar Cane Museum which was built on the ruins of an ancient sugar cane factory and features Europe’s oldest sugar mill.

Places on The Rum Experience University 2014 takes place on September 7th – 11th and places are limited and available from £899. The cost covers bed, breakfast, lunch and dinner on top of the masterclasses and seminars, four afternoon rum excursions, Rum Experience University book and an industry recognised rum diploma. Flights and hotel transfers are not included.
