The Coco Lopez & El Dorado Cocktail Challenge Returns

£1000 cash money up for grabs in no-holds-barred comp

Sorry Sophie, this photo had to go in!

Last year, the Coco Lopez & El Dorado Cocktail Challenge, in association with Hamilton Beach, was one of the most talked about comps.

Two bartender-favourite brands, and the twisted Pina Colada round, brought some of the UK’s best bartenders out to play, and the performances were epic.

The comp is back this year, taking place on Tuesday 18th March 2014 from 3pm following the 1st day of the Northern Restaurant & Bar Show at The Liars Club, Manchester, and first place wins £1000 in cold, hard cash.

Entries for the competition need to be submitted to jcoston@b-opie.com by midnight on Saturday 1st March. Finalists will be notified via email at midday on Saturday 8th March 2014.

To enter, submit two drinks:

Round One – Twisted Pina Colada. The bartender’s twist on a Pina Colada, using any variation you wish. The only requirements for this round is that the drink must be blended using a Hamilton Beach Tempest Blender (provided) and the use of El Dorado 3yo or 5yo & of course, Coco Lopez.

It must also resemble a Pina Colada. Ingredients, measurements, garnish and vessel are all determined by the bartender and can be as outrageous as you like. Banter & Performance criteria weigh equally to the cocktail itself so bring your A-Game.

N.B. the inclusion of a Bennett Opie Cocktail Cherries (with stem) will be highly favoured in judging…

Round Two – Your own creation. Again, El Dorado 3yo or 5yo must be used in conjunction with a minimum of 20ml of Coco Lopez Cream of Coconut. The rest is up to you.

Participants must submit the following information with both recipes:

  • Name of Competitor
  • Name & Location of Bar
  • E-mail address
  • Contact phone number
  • Ingredients in ml
  • Vessel
  • Garnish
  • Method (of 2nd drink)
  • Cocktail Names

Competitors will have 10 minutes to make and present both drinks in one visit to the bar, which will be judged by the 2013 Coco Lopez Cocktail Challenge Champion, Jake Burger, along with Tom Sneesby of The Liquorists, Martin Shaw of Hamilton Beach, and BarLifeUK’s Andy Ives.

The four judges will decide who takes the top prize of £1000.00 cash, along with a bottle of El Dorado 21yo.

The best twisted Pina Colada on the day will take home a Hamilton Beach Tempest Blender worth over £900.00.
