Quo Vadis Bar Manager Job Description
The role of the Bar Manager is to lead, motivate and energise the team and to be responsible for the entire operation and financial performance of the Bar, in accordance with company standards. In addition the Bar Manager is tasked with constantly challenging the current operation and researching new opportunities to increase revenue and profitability in their business. The Bar Manager has overall responsibility for ensuring the unit is operated and maintained to maximise profitability while ensuring that company standards, policies and procedures are maintained..
Operational Responsibilities:
- Ensure the atmosphere of the unit e.g lights, music, temperature and ambience is appropriate to our customer profile, time of day, and standards set by the Operations Director and General Manager
- Ensure that the unit is effectively managed and staffed at all times
- Monitor the quality of drinks, food and service to make sure they are in accordance with company standards
- Manage the security of cash, product and equipment while on shift and report any problems to a senior Manager on handover
- Ensure the unit is run to the company and legal standards in regards to Hygiene, Health and Safety, and Licensing
- Whenever possible maintain flexible operating hours, adapting to unforeseen circumstances to suit the situation
- Ensure that the highest quality of drink is provided
- Ensure the highest quality of service is provided to exceed customer expectation
- Manage financial control and stock security
- Liaise with the sales and marketing team to drive and manage marketing, promotions and events
- Build up relationships with local business and any potential customers
- Undertake capacity management
- Deliver gross profit
- Run dynamic and effective meetings with Hospitality management
- Set targets for and manage the highest standards for the customer experience
Financial Responsibilities:
- Manage cost of labour and consumption of stock (liquor) while on shift, without compromising the customer experience or company standards
- Understand weekly labour forecasts to effectively manage the wage cost while on shift
- Build sales by promoting customer satisfaction, through day to day service and handling of enquiries and bookings
- Identify and solve any problems that affect sales and profit in liaison with the Management Team
Building and Maintenance Responsibilities:
- Monitor maintenance of premises and equipment on a regular basis and report recommended actions to the rest of the Management Team
- Supervise cleaning rotas to ensure that the tasks listed are completed in the appropriate time frame
- Ensure security of the premises, stock and cash whilst on shift
Marketing Responsibilities:
- Ensure that marketing material in the unit is of the required standard and displayed within the appropriate time frame i.e. menus, table stands, posters etc
- Lead the Management Team in any promotions and marketing projects
Customer Responsibilities:
- Deal with customers on a daily basis in a prompt and professional manner
- Make sure all complaints are handled effectively and efficiently with the end result being a happy customer
- Communicate any customer problems or complaints to the rest of the Management Team and the Operations Director
People Management Responsibilities:
- Assist in ensuring all recruitment and internal promotions are carried out in accordance with the company’s Equal Opportunities Policy by assessing all candidates against established person specifications and job criteria
- Manage the inductions of new staff according to company standards
- Ensure all legislative training is completed within the required time scale and recorded legitimately in the staff training records
- Manage the coordination of staff on-the-job training
- Liaise with the rest of the Management Team in order to evaluate and conduct refresher training when needed
- Assist in ensuring all staff and Management are made available to attend appropriate training courses when provided
- Develop the staff to help them achieve their potential by assisting in effective appraisal processes
- Champion internal promotions and incentives
- Ensure good communication with all staff by contributing in staff meetings and managing staff on shift through effective shift meetings
- Use consistent practices when managing staff and ensure that the rest of the Management team gets the appropriate feedback at all times
- Manage staff in an open and approachable manner to assist in maximising staff retention
- Ensure the staff comply with all legislation regarding Health and Safety, Fire safety, Food safety and licensing law at all times
Communication Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and timely cascade of information to all departments at all times
- Participate in weekly Management meetings using pre-prepared feedback in regards to your department/responsibilities
Additional Responsibilities:
- Responsible for management level direct reports and all people management responsibilities listed above in regards to those managers
- Ensure departmental financial targets are set and communicated for all members of the management team
- Demonstrate full understanding and control of the Profit and Loss accounts and identify and solve any problems that affect sales and profit
- Lead weekly Management meetings using detailed, pre-prepared feedback in regards to the unit performance as a whole
- Generate sales and marketing initiatives to increase sales and profitability in the venue as a whole, and liaise with the Operatons Director & General Manager in order to gain authorization for implementation

Management Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and ensure that adequate supervision and guidance is provided at all times to all staff, particularly where they are new or inexperienced
- Monitor staff performance ensuring that all procedures are implemented accurately and correctly, agreeing training needs and training/development plans
- Monitor and manage staff issues such as poor performance, conduct, attendance and timekeeping and follow formal procedures where appropriate
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Be familiar with the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and ensure that all relevant rules and procedures are conformed to at all times
- Personally undertake health and safety training and periodically review and update own level of awareness of health and safety
- Ensure that any situation that represents a danger and all accidents/incidents are dealt with promptly and sufficiently by the appropriate person
- Take responsibility for own health and safety and that of others by following health and safety systems and procedures
