National Sake Week: 15th to 21st April, 2024.
Samuel Boulton, who is in with a shot of being the industry’s most proactive category advocate, has announced the launch of the UK’s first National Sake Week, which will kick off in April this year.
Described as a celebration of Japanese Sake and Shochu, National Sake Week seeks to engage and educate participants by way of tasting sessions and educational workshops that will deep-dive into the artistry that underpins the creation of sake and shochu. Or, as the press release puts it:
“National Sake Week 2024 invites you to become part of a cultural odyssey, a week filled with tastings, pairings, educational moments, and social gatherings that promise to deepen your appreciation for the intricate world of Sake and Shochu. In 2024, National Sake Week targets the participation of 100 bars and restaurants, 30 brand/ import partners, and 30 UK events, aiming to create a nationwide celebration of Japanese drinking culture.“
Festival founder, Samual Boulton adds: “National Sake Week represents an exciting opportunity to showcase the beauty and complexity of Japanese sake to a wider audience. We’re thrilled to bring together enthusiasts, industry professionals, and newcomers alike for a week of exploration, education, and celebration.”
Sounds smashing, and I for one look forward to attending some of these events because what I know about sake and sochu could be written on a grain of rice with a Sharpie.
