King of the Pins: bowling, booze, food – Thursday 9th February, 2017
Leeds’ King of the Pins bowling comp and bartender social is back. This year, being its fifth anniversary, the event has added bells and whistles, thanks to a bunch of sponsor brands, including, among others, Bacardi Brown Forman, Meantime Brewery, Ilkley Brewery and Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey.
As in previous years, 60-odd bartenders will be bowling to be crowned King and Queen of the Pins, each winning a prize pack worth £600, which includes tickets, travel and a roof over their heads for Tales of Tour in Edinburgh.

Entry into the bowling comp costs £20 a pop, and for this you will get:
Food provided at pre-tournament meet-up (Sponsored by MeatLiquor Leeds).
Welcome drinks (at least) at each venue
KOTP sponsor-branded baseball shirt
Discounted drinks at the bowling centre bar.
Free brand stuff. Because everyone loves free brand stuff.
Non-bowling supporters are welcome too, and will get everything aside from bowling for £15.
Hi! Balls?
New this year is the ‘Hi! Balls?’ drinks comp. Each bar fielding a bowler gets an automatic entry, to take advantage of which, you need to create a drink and Instagram it.
How to enter
Create a drink (See rules below).
Take a nice picture of it, including the bottles.
Post to Instagram (can be through either a business or personal account) and tag @kingofthepins. Use the hashtags: #KOTP #KINGOFTHEPINS #BALLSDEEP #HIBALLS
Include the following in your post:
i.Name of your bar (particularly if posting from a personal Instagram account)
ii.Selected products
iii.A short description/explanation of the pairing
Share the post from King of the Pins to increase your likes and influence the judges.
The top drinks as chosen by the sponsors will be served as welcome drinks at King of the Pins
The winner will also take home a secret boozy prize to be shared between the bar team
The rules
Drinks must contain between 25 and 50ml of your chosen spirit(s)
Drinks must be served with a full bottle of beer or mixer
Maximum of 2 different spirits allowed in each drink
Drinks must be either:
Highball-style: Spirit, mixer, ice and a garnish
“Boilermaker” style pairing: Beer and a spirit, ice optional
No homemade stuff, no slideshows, no wanky chat – tell us why you’ve chosen your combination and what it tastes like, we’ll do the rest.
