Here at BarLifeUK, as you can imagine, we love the internet.

In addition to providing easy and immediate access to kitten videos and smut, it is tailor made for delivering news – we can judge and photograph a cocktail competition and have the results live as quickly as we are able to type them up.

We believe this is what good web publishing is all about: delivering short, snappy editorial which is updated every day. It’s an outlook which has grown BarLifeUK to become the industry’s go-to hub for cocktail competition results and news.

We have always avoided long, in-depth drinks writing because no-one wants to sit in front of a computer screen scrolling a mouse wheel for 3000 words. It’s just not a pleasant way to settle in for a long-haul read about an interesting subject.

Which is why we have launched Barlife Magazine for iPad (Android versions will follow shortly).

Each month the magazine will bring you in-depth and unpretentious  spirits, cocktail, drinks and bartender lifestyle writing by the BarLifeUK team as well as bartenders and other contributors from all over the world.

The magazine has been designed specifically for use with touchscreen tablets – none of your dodgy PDF page turning software here – providing a seamless and intuitive reading experience enhanced with video (once you have downloaded the issue, video is embedded so you don’t need an internet connection – perfect for Tube reading).

The launch issue of Barlife Magazine in now available in the iTunes store as a free download (following issues will cost £1.49 each or £10.99 for an annual subscription), and includes our pick of the 10 best competition cocktails of 2012 and Simon Ford’s guide to NYC bartender hangouts, among other drinks-geeky delights.

BarLifeUK.com will keep doing what it’s been doing for the last three years – news, competition results and job vacancies will still be appearing here on a daily basis. But for drinks writing with a sense of humour, Barlife Magazine is your new best friend.

We hope you enjoy the mag, and please let us know what you think about our new baby…
