Elixir Distillers have released ‘an autumnal tribute to the flavours of Islay’, in the form of Port Askaig 12 Year-Old Autumn Limited Edition.
The Autumn Edition is a blend of liquid from nine refill American oak hogsheads, five Oloroso sherry butts, and three solera sherry butts, combined to create a single malt described as having ‘a medley of smoke, fruity and coastal notes’.
Elixir describe the new dram as having “notes of crumbly wensleydale cheese and sweet cranberries, evolving to smoky bacon crisps on the nose. A melange of juicy red grapes and smouldering wood chips grow on the palate, while salty and spicy notes reminiscent of Tabasco sauce and smoked chipotle peppers continue to the finish“.
Port Askaig 12 Year-Old Autumn Edition is non chill-filtered and bottled at 45.8%. Nine thousand bottles of the limited edition release have been produced, becoming available from October 2020.
