Diageo Announce Financial Support For British Drinks Industry

As Boris fiddles whilst the hospitality industry burns, Diageo are providing bars and pubs some welcome help.

On St Patrick’s Day rather than Guinness sitting around and worrying about a drop in sales on their biggest weekend of the year, they have announced they are pledging £1,000,000 to support bartenders wages across Great Britain. A similar fund is being set up in Ireland.

As of Monday, 23rd bars and pubs will be able to apply for up to £600 per site to put towards staff wages, to help out with one of the biggest worries owners and operators have. From Monday you will have to head to www.MyDiageo.com to apply. UPDATE: It has just been confirmed to us that this is available to all independent trade outlets on not restricted to Diageo clients. Amazing.

On top of this Diageo is helping to support smaller retailers, pubs and bars up and down the country by providing flexibility on order size and allowing smaller customers to manage their inventory in this fast-moving situation. This will be applied across Diageo’s total trade customer base in a bid to help customers access product more easily and manage their cash flow in these challenging circumstances.

Finally anyone working in the drinks trade will be able to a complimentary Diageo Bar Academy Training course at www.diageobaracademy.com. Training includes modules such as the ‘business of bar tending,’ which can provide practical advice and may help to manage quieter trading periods.

Dayalan Nayager – Managing Director Great Britain, Ireland and France at Diageo said: “The British drinks trade is facing one of its most challenging times ever and we want to help our communities when they need us most. We all need to come together to support the trade and I would urge all my fellow drinks producers to do what they can to help our British pubs, bars and retailers and restaurants over the next few months.”

Guinness and Diageo we tip our oversized branded St Patrick’s Day hat to you.
