Create a Cocktail with Ceylon Arrack and Save a Baby Elephant

Ceylon Arrack have a small, and very cute, baby elephant that needs your help.

Rockland Distillers, the makers of Ceylon Arrack, were called by Sri Lanka’s Department for Wildlife Conservation as they had found an orphaned baby elephant wandering around the outskirts of a village that needed a home.

Rockland immediately offered to help, and have sponsored care of the baby elephant for the first year of its life at a National Park.

Your help is needed

Firstly, we can’t keep referring to the baby elephant as ‘baby elephant’ – the poor little mite needs a name and you are encouraged to visit Ceylon Arrack’s Facebook page and offer your suggestions (although we advise against Dumbo – they might have heard that a few times already).

Secondly, it will take around five years of life in the National Park before the elephant is mature enough to be released back into the wild, and Rockland Distillers and Ceylon Arrack distributors, Mangrove, have agreed to fund an extra week of care for every cocktail recipe using Ceylon Arrack that UK bartenders devise.

You can submit your cocktail recipes on the Ceylon Arrack Facebook page, and here are a couple of their signature drinks by way of inspiration:

The Baroness

  • 50ml Rockland Ceylon Arrack
  • 100ml Strawberry Tea

Shake ingredients over ice. Double strain into ice-filled rocks glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

The Paddington

  • 50ml Rockland Ceylon Arrack
  • 3tsp British marmalade
  • 3 Slices fresh orange
  • 1 Maraschino cherry
  • ½ inch Fresh ginger

Rim rocks glass with sugar and cinnamon powder mix. Muddle marmalade, ginger, cherry and orange in glass. Fill with ice and add Ceylon Arrack. Garnish with a flamed orange zest and cinnamon stick as a swizzle.

About Ceylon Arrack

Ceylon Arrack is distilled from the sap of the coconut flower. The sap has its own natural yeast and starts fermenting naturally once collected. It must be distilled within 24 hours of being collected.

Arrack is one of the few spirits in the world which is a distillate of 100% natural fermentation. The raw spirit is aged in traditional Sri Lankan ‘Halmilla’ hard wood. This process results in a complex liquid with a rich sweet nose and aromas and flavours of tropical fruit.
