Christian Drouin Releases ‘Hine Angels’ Calvados Finished in Hine Cognac Barrels

Hine Angels is a 17YO Pays d’Auge Calvados which was finished for six months in three Hine Cognac Casks

Calvados producer Christian Drouin has announced the third release in its Expérimental de Christian Drouin series with the launch of Hine Angels, a Calvados finished in Hine Cognac barrels, which becomes available in the UK via Speciality Brands later this month.

Hine Angels is a 17-year-old Pays d’Auge Calvados which was finished for six months in three Hine Cognac casks. Only 1,296 bottles are being released globally. The producers give the following tasting notes: “The nose is of great intensity, offering aromas of apple pie, nuts and flowers, then an evolution on dried fruits and notes of rancio. The mouth is very deep, with silky tannins and great length.”

Guillaume Drouin, Président, Christian Drouin, comments:  “I remember a trip to Cognac a couple of years ago when I had the chance to stop at Hine and enjoy a wonderful vertical tasting of old cognac vintages. There are not many Houses in Cognac that can offer such a beautiful journey through time. We certainly felt our two houses were strongly connected. It was always a tradition at Christian Drouin Estate to use Cognac casks for ageing so Hine was an obvious choice for the Expérimental range. For this release, I chose a deep 17-year-old Pays d’Auge Calvados to pair with Hine’s rich flavours. The casks bring flowery flavours and silky tannins to the Calvados and we hope British drinkers will enjoy the result!
