The end of a bar-era?
In a text message received by BarLifeUK within the last 30 minutes from Mr. Downey, we can report:
‘So after almost 12 years of trading and some great days and nights, we sold Match Bar W1 today. I have mixed feelings but it’s time to focus on other things. The new owners plan to carry on the name etc and it was nearly a Nando’s so we’ve saved it from the that fate at least! Thank you to all the staff and customers we’ve had over the years. Match Bar was a cracking business and brilliant place to drink. We will miss it.’
BarLifeUK would like to echo these sentiments, a lot of the country’s (and world’s) best bartenders have learnt at least some of their trade behind the stick at Match Bar W1 and it will be missed. Let’s home the new owners carry on the tradition.
