BACARDÍ Gets Untameable

BACARDÍ are drawing on their rich history in the latest campaign to hit the UK – BACARDÍ Untameable Since 1862.

You know something special is in store when you’re told the ‘unveiling’ will be taking place at One Mayfair and Facebook is full of bartenders such as Zdenek Kastanek, Steve Schneider, Daniele Dalla Pola and Shingo Gokan checking in at Heathrow Airport.

One Mayfair is a big old space but there wasn’t a free seat in the house as Shervene Shahbazhani took us through the colourful history of the Bacardi family and brand. As Shev went through the 152 years of history it became obvious that the campaigns ‘Irrepressible Spirit’ tagline was well picked.

Over those years BACARDÍ has suffered through earthquakes, fires, prohibition, revolution and exile.

Later in the evening we were to experience a bit of this history ourselves but first we were treated to the unveiling of the new bat logo which again draws on the past combining two of the older logos. Then came an unexpected treat as we were all given a taste of the exceptionally rare Ron Bacardi, de Maestros de Ron, Vintage, MMXII.

With the taste of the rum still on our lips the room was filled with flashing blue lights and policemen in 20’s garb raiding the venue and ushering us out the room.

Cuba Time Warp

Bemused and amused guests politely obliged (we are British after all) and were rewarded with lovely looking air stewardesses and an airport check-in.

When prohibition hit America the party moved to Cuba. Throngs of well-heeled US citizens in search of a drink jumped on planes and landed in the paradise that was Cuba. BACARDÍ were there to meet them at the airport (literally) and soon it wasn’t a party in Cuba without a bottle of Bacardi involved.

Our party that night certainly contained a bottle of Bacardi. The lower catacombs of One Mayfair had been transformed into 20’s Cuba with food, bars filled with some of the world’s best bartenders knocking out superb drinks and a live band that had everyone quickly in the mood.

We may be knocking on a bit over here at BarLifeUK but even we weren’t around during the 1920’s but it must have been very similar to the experience BACARDÍ put on for us. There was lots of laughter, lots of chatting and of course a fair amount of Bacardi being consumed.

If what we saw that night is any sort of reflexion on what BACARDÍ have in store for you all with this new campaign then expect to have a lot of fun.
