Thorough category knowledge is a powerful tool when it comes to helping customers appreciate quality spirits.
Understanding the effect a spirit’s origins and production methods have on flavour profile is also the first step in exploring its potential as a cocktail ingredient.
The West Indies Rum and Spirits Producers’ Association (WIRSPA) recognise this, and are about to roll out a major series of training session across the UK (as well as Europe and North America), focusing on the Authentic Caribbean Rum (ACR) marque, which was developed as a symbol of authenticity, provenance and quality for rums within the WIRSPA family of fifteen rum producers.
Attend one of these training sessions, led by Amit Sood (head of professional training at Shaker), and you will obtain the first ever official certification by the Authentic Caribbean Rum Marque: The Authentic Caribbean Rum Diploma.
Having completed the Diploma session, you will also be able to apply for a place on the full Authentic Caribbean Rum certification programme, which includes a week spent with rum producers in the Caribbean.
