Would you like to take a work pal on an all-expenses-paid trip to visit an organic cachaça distillery, and have a food and culture-filled adventure in Brazil?
If the answer to that question is yes, and it almost certainly is, then the Abelha Organic Cachaça Caipirinha Competition is for you.
Abelha are challenging bartenders around the UK to create a local twist on the classic Caipirinha cocktail that expresses the cocktail culture of their city or town, and the loyal customers who visit their bars.
The competition final will take place later in the year, with the top-two competitors each winning a trip to Brazil, AND they will both be able to nominate a workmate from their bar to accompany them. The party of four will then be whisked away to visit the Abelha distillery and enjoy the aforementioned once-in-a-lifetime trip to Brazil.
For the uninitiated, Abelha starts life in Bahia, Northern Brazil, where a collective of small-holding farmers grow sugar cane 100% organically on highland sandy soils. The resulting juice is distilled in small batches in a traditional copper still, with the spirit either being rested (descansada) for 6 months in steel tanks or aged for 3 years in garapeira wooden barrels.
The Responsible Trading Company (RTC) who produce Abelha Cachaça, are developing fair partnerships with small holding farmers that enable them to grow sugar cane 100% organically, because, as the RTC founder says: “The fewer artificial chemical products we spray around, which in our case is zero, the better the cachaça, the better the environment and the better for everyone.”
Entry and Love Drinks Trade Support
The Abelha Caipirinha Competition is being supported by a nationwide promotion undertaken by Love Drinks, which will reward guests who buy Abelha Caipirinha cocktails with the chance to win monthly prizes, thus incentivising them to keep visiting bars to enjoy more cocktails.
The Love Drinks team will visit all of the bars and bartenders taking part throughout the Summer to offer trade and social media support.
To enter the Abelha Caipirinha Competition, submit your recipe twist via the form below before the entry deadline of midnight on May 1st. A paper judging process will select the competition field, with the successful bartenders invited to compete in the final, to be held in London this October.
Entry Terms and Conditions
- Your Caipirinha twist recipe should contain a minimum of 30ml Abelha cachaça, there are no other ingredient limitations for the competition.
- Your Abelha Caipirinha Competition Cocktail and a standard Abelha Caipirinha must be on your cocktail menu between May 10th and October 31st.
- You and your nominated travelling companion must be over 18 years old and hold valid passports which allow travel to Brazil.
