ASLEF and RMT Unions announce industrial action planned for 7th and 12th November, 2024
Travel trade unions ASLEF and RMT have announced their workers will hold several strike days in November. Engineering staff will walk out on November 1st, followed by London Underground drivers and operators on November 7th and 12th. In all three cases, tube services are likely to be severely disrupted and subject to cancellation.
This latest round of industrial action is part of the unions’ attempts to secure a new pay deal for Transport For London (TFL) workers. RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “London Underground’s pay offer falls short of what our members deserve. It threatens to remove collective bargaining for a growing portion of staff, pushing them into pay bands that are decided solely by management. This undermines our members’ rights and the core principles of fair negotiation… No trade union can accept any pay proposal where management decide which of our members gets a pay rise and those who do not.”
A TFL spokesperson is quoted by BBC News as saying further negotiations with the unions are planned next week, so there is a chance a deal will be reached before the industrial action is due to start – and for the sake of London’s bar workers and patrons, let’s hope that spokesperson is right.
We will bring you updates about the planned strikes as they are announced.
