World Class Bartender of the Year Global Final: 4th – 8th July, 2021
Diageo has announced that the 2021 World Class global final will be a fully virtual event, featuring bartenders around the globe competing for the Global Bartender of the Year between July 4th and 8th this year.
With the fight against Covid-19 progressing at different rates in different countries, it would have been impossible to hold an in-the-flesh final to World Class this year, so instead Diageo have put together what is probably the biggest programme of virtual events the bar industry has seen since the pandemic began. In addition to over 55 individual country champions presenting via stream, the five-day event will also feature immersive opportunities for people to watch and engage with the competition. Viewers can expect trend-led experts panels, masterclasses, and augmented-reality bars in addition to watching the competitors strive for the Global Bartender of the Year crown.
The 2021 competition is well underway, with finalists already confirmed from the US, Canada, Nigeria and the Czech Republic. BarLifeUK are judging the GB final next week, and we will bring you coverage of that as it happens. By July, all competitors will have competed virtually in their own countries, becoming well prepared for the challenge of the virtual Global Final.
Pedro Mendonça, Global Reserve Director said: “The last 12 months has thrown a lot at the hospitality industry, but we’ve been determined to shine a light on the innovation, creativity and community spirit within the bartending community and crown a winner no matter what… We have been planning for multiple scenarios and wanted to give clarity to everyone taking part by confirming the final format as early as possible. During that planning we’ve been blown away by the possibilities of a virtual event and are really excited about bringing these to life in July.”
