Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) will celebrate half-century with book, award, and Wine Education Week launches.

Established in 1969, the WSET will commemorate 50 years of providing wine and spirits education in 2019. Now the World’s largest provider of booze-related qualifications, the WSET will celebrate this landmark with a schedule of activity that highlights the role education plays in the development of the hospitality industry.

New initiatives for 2019 include a commemorative book, contributed to by WSET alumni and edited by David Wrigley MW, and the launch of a global Wine Education Week, which will take place between 9-15th of September this year.

Additionally, the WSET will partner with the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWCS), also celebrating its 50th anniversary, to launch the ‘Future 50’, which will recognise 50 global drinks industry ‘up-and-comers’. Nominations for the Future 50 will open in February 2019, with the winners announced at the IWSC banquet in November of the same year.

Further information about each of these initiatives will be announced on the WSET website as the year progresses.

WSET Chief Executive Ian Harris says: “2019 marks a momentous year for WSET and we are pulling out all the stops to celebrate the occasion. We will be bringing together our network of qualification holders and educators worldwide to look back on all that we have achieved, and more importantly, inspire a future generation of better educated wine and spirits professionals and enthusiasts who will make this industry thrive for another 50 years and beyond.
