USA Wins Bacardi Legacy 2016

Bacardi’s epic global competition reaches its climax in San Franciso

Come on, admit it. You think his hair looks ridiculous.

Come on, admit it. You think his hair looks ridiculous.

The eighth Bacardi Legacy Global Cocktail Competition concluded on April 24th, in San Francisio, USA.

This year, Iain Griffiths of White Lyan had hoped to emulate Tom Walker’s 2014 victory, and win the Legacy crown with his Carta Switchel cocktail.

However, this was not to be, as Gn Chan from America’s Angel’s Share beat the other 36 finalists from around the world (and cruise ships), to walk away with the prize.

Bacardi’s global ambassador, Dickie Cullimore describes the result: “Gn is a popular and worthy winner tonight; he’s impressed not only with a delicious drink and compelling story, but also with his consistency throughout the competition. Venceremos is a drink that people will enjoy all over the world and has all the makings of a modern classic.

We would normally follow this news item with a misty-eyed and hungover report on the grand final and the days leading up to it. However, this year we can’t, because we weren’t there. So, you’ll have to wait for our esteemed colleagues in the press to post something that won’t be as good as the story we would have written.

In the mean time, you can knock up Gn Chan’s drink in your bar and see what you think (whilst wondering why the Americans persist with this ‘parts’ nonsense):

Venceremos – by Gn Chan

  • 11 parts BACARDÍ Carta Blanca
  • 1 part Coconut liqueur
  • ⅚ part Pineapple juice
  • 1 part Cucumber Juice
  • ⅙ part Lime juice
  • 1 Dash sesame oil

Method – Shake and strain

Glassware – Hurricane or rocks
