The Food Network to broadcast four part series following World Class competitors on yacht final

Diageo’s investment in the World Class competition since launch six years ago has to be applauded.

Obviously the competition is ultimately designed to help them sell more booze, but along the way World Class is doing a lot of good for the trade – bartenders are being trained and educated in spirits categories, receiving trade exposure and in some cases, winning some pretty epic prizes.

World Class is also bringing top-flight bartending into the public’s consciousness, with next week’s Food Network show a case in point.

A film crew followed the 43 qualifying bartenders throughout the 2013 World Class final, held in part on a luxury yacht as it cruised the Med this Summer. The resulting four part series will be broadcast next week at 10pm, beginning on Monday 18th.

This must have cost seriously big bucks, and while we all know Diageo are a huge company with deep pockets, we also know that bartenders have been saying: “why are there no bartending shows on TV?” for years.

So make sure you tune in and watch the World Class boys and girls in action next week, which will hopefully send the network a message that we’d like to see more cocktails on TV.

The Food Network can be found on the following channels:

  • Sky: 262/263
  • Virgin: 287
  • Freeview: 41
  • Freesat: 403/404
